Carlo Acutis was born in London in 1991 to Italian parents and grew up in Milan. He went to Mass every day from his first Communion, taught himself to code and built a website cataloguing the Eucharistic miracles of the world. He died of leukaemia in 2006, aged fifteen, and is buried in Assisi.
He was canonised on 7 September 2025, together with Pier Giorgio Frassati, and is often called the first millennial saint. He called the Eucharist his highway to heaven. Artists show him as he appears in photographs of him, a smiling teenager in jeans and a sweatshirt, sometimes beside a monstrance.
He grew up with the same screens, games and pressures as young people now, and used his gifts to lead others to the Eucharist. A saint a confirmation candidate can recognise as one of their own.
