Masaccio (1401–1428) died at twenty-seven and changed painting anyway. The Brancacci Chapel frescoes and the Holy Trinity in Santa Maria Novella brought Brunelleschi’s perspective and a new solidity of the human body into religious art; Michelangelo went to the Brancacci to copy him.
