Carlo Crivelli

1 work in the collection

Carlo Crivelli (c. 1430–1495), a Venetian who worked in the Marches, painted the most ornate altarpieces of the fifteenth century: gilded, jewelled, hung with garlands of fruit, every surface worked like a goldsmith’s. Out of fashion for centuries, he was rediscovered by the Victorians and has never gone out again.
