Andrea del Sarto (1486–1530), called the painter without errors by Vasari, was the leading painter of Florence in the generation after Leonardo and Raphael left it. His altarpieces are calm, grand and perfectly drawn; Pontormo and Rosso, who invented Mannerism, were his pupils.
