Titian

Tiziano Vecellio, known as Titian (c. 1488/90–1576), ranks among the greatest painters of the Italian Renaissance. Born in Pieve di Cadore, near Venice, Titian became renowned for his mastery of color, dynamic compositions, and innovation in oil painting. As a prominent figure of the Venetian School, Titian developed a highly influential style that shaped European art for centuries, inspiring later masters such as Rubens, Velázquez, and Rembrandt. By the time he painted "Saint John the Baptist," Titian was celebrated for his ability to infuse religious subjects with humanity and psychological depth. His contributions to religious, mythological, and portrait painting epitomize the artistic ideals of the High Renaissance, and his technical innovations were key in advancing the use of oil paint.
