Piero della Francesca

1 work in the collection

Piero della Francesca (c. 1415–1492) painted with the calm of a mathematician — he wrote treatises on perspective and solid geometry — and the light of early morning. The Baptism, the Flagellation, the Resurrection at Sansepolcro and the frescoes at Arezzo are among the most serene pictures in Western art, and painters from Seurat to Hockney have gone back to them.
