Pedro Machuca (c. 1490–1550) was born in Toledo and died in Granada, and the details of his life are poorly known. He is said to have been a pupil or friend of Michelangelo and Pontormo. After returning to Spain in 1520 he worked as a painter in the Royal Chapel of Granada, and in Jaén, Toledo and Uclés.
He is chiefly remembered as an architect, for his design of the Palace of Charles V beside the Alcázar in Granada, begun in 1528 and probably the first major building in Spain in the classical Renaissance style.
