Mihály Munkácsy

Mihály Munkácsy, born in 1844 in Hungary, was one of the most celebrated painters of the 19th century. Renowned for his large-scale historical and genre paintings, Munkácsy played a vital role in shaping Central European art during his era. Orphaned at a young age and apprenticed to a cabinetmaker, he gravitated towards painting, later training in Vienna and Munich before ultimately establishing his reputation in Paris. He became especially known for his skill in capturing dramatic scenes, emotional narratives, and masterful handling of light and color.
