1 work in the collection

Justus van Gent (c. 1410 – c. 1480) is identified with the Flemish painter Joos van Wassenhove, who joined the Antwerp painters' guild in 1460 and became a master in Ghent in 1464, where he stood surety for Hugo van der Goes on his entry to the guild. Around 1470 he travelled to Rome, and by 1473 he was running a workshop in Urbino as one of the court painters of Duke Federico da Montefeltro. He died around 1480. Before leaving Flanders he painted the Calvary Triptych in Ghent's Saint Bavo Cathedral, close in colour and faces to the work of Van der Goes. In Urbino he painted the Communion of the Apostles for the Confraternity of Corpus Domini, which includes a portrait of the duke. A series of 28 portraits of famous men for the duke's study is attributed to him, though Pedro Berruguete has also been proposed, possibly working in his studio. Here: St. Augustine.
