Johann Wenzel Peter

Johann Wenzel Peter (1745–1829) was born in Karlsbad, in what is now the Czech Republic, and worked in Rome, where he died. He is known above all for his paintings of animals, which hang in the Vatican Museums, and he also painted frescoes for the Galleria Borghese. Pope Gregory XVI furnished the Room of the Consistory in the papal apartments with twenty works bought from him. Here: Adam et Ève au Paradis Terrestre.
