Henry Ossawa Tanner (1859–1937) was a painter of the realism, born in Pittsburgh. He worked in Paris, Pont-Aven and Philadelphia. He trained under Jean-Joseph Benjamin-Constant and Jean-Paul Laurens. He died in 6th arrondissement of Paris in 1937. Among his documented works are Moroccan Scene, The Thankful Poor and The Banjo Lesson.
