Giovanni Agostino da Lodi

1 work in the collection

Giovanni Agostino da Lodi (active c. 1495–1525) was a Lombard painter of the Renaissance whose works were uncertainly attributed for centuries until the art historian Bernard Berenson defined his style and career. Among his first identified works is the Boatmen Altarpiece in San Pietro Martire on Murano, and his only signed work, Saint Peter and Saint John the Evangelist in the Brera, shows the influence of Bramantino. He later took on the manner of Leonardo da Vinci, as his Christ Washing the Feet of the Apostles in the Accademia in Venice shows. After a period in Venice following the fall of Ludovico Sforza, he returned to Milan in 1506 and worked for private patrons and for the Certosa di Pavia. Here: Christ Washing St. Peter's Feet.
