Caspar David Friedrich (1774–1840) was a painter of the German Romanticism, born in Greifswald. He worked in Dresden and Copenhagen. He trained under Johann Gottfried Quistorp and Thomas Thorild. He died in Dresden in 1840. Among his documented works are The Sea of Ice, Two men contemplating the Moon and Tree of crows.
