Ary Scheffer (1795–1858) was a painter of the Romanticism, born in Dordrecht. He worked in Paris. He trained under Pierre-Narcisse Guérin. He died in Argenteuil in 1858. Among his documented works are Battle of Tolbiac, Charlemagne at Paderborn and Francesca da Rimini and Paolo Malatesta appraised by Dante and Virgil.
